County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee
The San Mateo County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee advises the Board of Supervisors on policies, plans, and programs that affect people walking and bicycling for transportation. The Committee was established by a Board of Supervisors Resolution in September 2015.
About the Committee
The San Mateo County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (SMCBPAC) is responsible for reviewing policies, programs and priorities related to walking and bicycling for transportation. The Committee develops and implements an annual work plan focused on neighborhoods in the unincorporated areas of the county. The annual work plan may include reviewing existing conditions, collaborating with Safe Routes to Schools programs, developing recommendations for improved standards or plans.
Committee members receive input from members of the public on walking and bicycling issues and make recommendations, as appropriate, to the Board of Supervisors. Five committee members are appointed generally serving four year terms representing the interest areas of:
- Safe Routes to Schools
- Older Adults
Two members are appointed at-large, and two additional members are appointed as alternates.
Here are some examples of topics the Committee advises and collaborates on:
- improving safety and reducing crashes for all roadway users
- identifying priority projects to connect sidewalks and complete bikeway networks
- developing policy recommendations to implement Complete Streets
- recommending evaluation and benchmarking to measure progress
The SMCBPAC helps the County meet its Shared Vision 2025 goals of fostering a Livable Community and an Environmentally Conscious community by shifting trips away from motor vehicles and helping reduce the 38% of the County's greenhouse gas emissions coming from transportation.
The Member roster is posted at the San Mateo County Boards and Commissions website.
